The South Brunswick Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 51-43 to West Brunswick. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for South Brunswick in their matchups with West Brunswick: they've now lost five in a row.
Despite the loss, South Brunswick saw an underclassman step up: Aubree Adams scored nine points along with eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Meryn Deutsch, who scored 15 points.
Among those leading the charge was Jahyra Mastry, who scored 21 points along with five assists and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Ja'kya Johnson was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six steals.
South Brunswick's defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 3-9. As for West Brunswick, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-6.
South Brunswick will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Hoggard at 6:00 p.m. Hoggard has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for West Brunswick, they will head out on the road to take on New Hanover at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. New Hanover presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than West Brunswick in North Carolina (New Hanover is ranked 64th, while West Brunswick is ranked 219th).
