The Baraboo Thunderbirds are taking a road trip to challenge the Mount Horeb Vikings at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Baraboo is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
Baraboo fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Reedsburg on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Beavers by a score of 7-6. The Thunderbirds have struggled against the Beavers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.
Addison Kohler made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Stella Cognac was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Mount Horeb came tearing into Tuesday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 6-3 victory over the Warriors.
Jayse Holman made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, Lauren Mester was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI. Delaina Nicewander also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Mount Horeb kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive contests.
Mount Horeb pushed their record up to 8-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Baraboo, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.
Baraboo might still be hurting after the 10-3 defeat they got from Mount Horeb when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Thunderbirds avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
