Two dominant backs in Jackson Shealy and Kaven Ford are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Porter-Gaud Cyclones will host the Northwood Academy Chargers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Having struggled with four losses in a row, Porter-Gaud turned things around against Ben Lippen on Friday. They breezed past the Falcons to the tune of 38-0. With that victory, the Cyclones brought their scoring average up to 27.1 points per game.
Scott Tibbals was the offensive standout of the contest as he rushed for 49 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 85 yards and one TD while completing 80% of his passes.
Porter-Gaud's run defense was locked in: Ben Lippen could only muster 2.5 yards per carry. While two picked up at least 11 total tackles, Huck Nevin stood above the rest. He made 11 total tackles (1.0 for loss) and snagged an interception which he returned one-yard for a touchdown. Porter-Gaud didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.3.

Porter-Gaud didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Nevin and Cole Thornton. Nevin has become a key player for Porter-Gaud: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least one interception, but 0-3 otherwise. Nevin got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Northwood Academy never let their opponents score on Friday. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 63-0 win over Cardinal Newman. Given the Chargers' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while the Cardinals are ranked 208th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Porter-Gaud better keep an eye on Max Pascazio. He was instrumental in Northwood Academy's win, rushing for 131 yards and one score on only 11 carries. Kevin Johnson was another key player, throwing for 130 yards and a pair of TDs.
Porter-Gaud's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-4. As for Northwood Academy, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.
Everything went Porter-Gaud's way against Northwood Academy in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, as Porter-Gaud made off with a 27-7 victory. Will the Cyclones repeat their success, or do the Chargers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
