Coconino is 8-2 against Mohave since March of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Panthers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Thunderbirds at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Mohave will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Coconino extended their winning streak to 13 on Monday. Everything went the Panthers' way against Marcos de Niza as they made off with a 19-2 win.
Kaitlyn Tso spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 20 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mia Pozar, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Danica Kern, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5.
Pozar wasn't the only one making solid contact: Coconino kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Mohave hadn't done well against Mingus recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Thunderbirds put the hurt on the Marauders with a sharp 21-11 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Thunderbirds.
Mohave got a massive performance out of Jahnezz Jones, who went 1-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Allison Portillo was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs and four RBI.
Coconino pushed their record up to 18-4 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Mohave, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Coconino has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .439. However, it's not like Mohave struggles in that department as they've averaged .462. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Coconino's way against Mohave when the teams last played last Monday, as Coconino made off with an 8-0 win. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Thunderbirds turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
