The Grand Island Islanders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They fell 54-43 to Lincoln High. Grand Island was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Lincoln High apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Despite the loss, Grand Island still got an impressive performance from Babur Choul, who scored 16 points along with two steals. Choul continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Mukadi Mukoma, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Grand Island has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. As for Lincoln High, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-13.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Grand Island will take on Fremont at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fremont will be up against Grand Island's rather soft defense (which has allowed 59.71 points per match), so fans could be in store for a big offensive showing. As for Lincoln High, they and Pius X will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Averaging 66.39 points so far this season, Pius X's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Lincoln High better be ready for a challenge.
