Calhoun Academy is a perfect 10-0 against Jefferson Davis Academy since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. If Calhoun Academy beats Jefferson Davis Academy with 13 runs on Thursday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. Calhoun Academy blew past Hammond 13-3 on Friday. Fans of the Cavaliers have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Skyler Ulmer made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Ulmer was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Anslea Aaron was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Coker Carson, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Calhoun Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hammond only posted an OBP of .300.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Jefferson Davis Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They never let Andrew Jackson Academy get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory on Monday.
Rileigh York was a standout: she scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Rynn Fickling, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-2.
The win (which was Calhoun Academy's third in a row) raised their record to 3-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Jefferson Davis Academy, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Calhoun Academy took their win against Jefferson Davis Academy in their previous matchup on Thursday by a conclusive 13-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Calhoun Academy since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
