Basketball Recap: Booker T. Washington Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Leanna Carpenter and Antaniya Britt

If Booker T. Washington was riding high fresh off their 41-11 takedown of Douglass last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The match between the Booker T. Washington Warriors and the Memphis Academy of Science and Engineering Phoenix didn't end well, with the Booker T. Washington Warriors falling 54-38. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 48-39 back in December of 2024.

Antaniya Britt and Leanna Carpenter certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Britt went 5 for 10 on her way to 14 points and six steals, while Carpenter went 8 of 11 en route to 20 points. The dominant performance gave Carpenter a new career-high in points.

Memphis Academy of Science and Engineering's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but London Dyson led the charge by dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Akiyra Mattison, who posted 21 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

Booker T. Washington moved to 9-9 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak. As for Memphis Academy of Science and Engineering, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Booker T. Washington will host Middle College at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Middle College will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Booker T. Washington surely won't give up without a fight. Memphis Academy of Science and Engineering has already played their next contest (against Manassas), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
