Basketball Recap: Greene Central Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Joshua Cetnar and Nick Avent

Greene Central lost against Washington back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Greene Central Rams took a 67-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Washington Pam Pack. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 175th, while the Pam Pack are ranked 42nd).

Greene Central's loss came despite strong showings from Nick Avent and Joshua Cetnar. Avent dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten boards, while Cetnar went 6 of 8 en route to 13 points and six rebounds. Those 18 points gave Avent a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dontrez Evans, who posted ten points and four steals.

Washington's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Javon Williams led the charge by putting up 22 points along with seven boards and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Jarryn Payne, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds.

Greene Central's record now sits at 9-9. As for Washington, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing West Craven the next time they take the court. Washington will head out to face West Craven at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, while Greene Central will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
