The Wabasha-Kellogg Falcons struggled with three-point shooting accuracy on Saturday (the Schaeffer Academy Lions were 21% better) and sadly the final score reflected it. The game between Wabasha-Kellogg and the Lions wasn't particularly close, with the Falcons falling 50-33. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Wabasha-Kellogg in their matchups with the Lions: they've now lost seven in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Wabasha-Kellogg lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ileana DeAngel. Despite the final result, she scored 17 points along with eight rebounds. That was a full 51.5% of Wabasha-Kellogg's points, marking the 11th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Brielle Adams, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Wabasha-Kellogg struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They are winless (0-5) when they just don't pass the ball.
Lillian Morrisey was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 26 points and 20 rebounds for Schaeffer Academy. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Morrisey has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriella Buehler, who scored nine points.
Wabasha-Kellogg's defeat was their 21st straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Schaeffer Academy, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-10.
Wabasha-Kellogg will head out on the road to square off against the Athletics at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Lyle/Pacelli is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Schaeffer Academy, they will be playing at home against the Crusaders at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Loyola has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
