Adding to the longest winning streak in Eastern South Dakota this week, Riggs beat O'Gorman 16-14,. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Aberdeen Central was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after besting Yankton. The Golden Eagles came in at 23 in the state poll after placing at number 27 last week.
Mitch Johnson provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Mitchell defeated Spearfish.
Johnson was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 142 yards on 20 carries as the Kernels bested the Spartans. Chase Harms also contributed to the rushing game with 32 yards on the ground.
The Bucks/Gazelles' Mason Strahl and JJ Hejna have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Strahl has thrown for 703 yards this season, while Hejna, a 6-foot-4 receiver, has 19 catches for 467 yards. Mitchell's Johnson leads the league in rushing yards with 250.
An important game coming up in Eastern South Dakota this week will be when Riggs takes on Huron. As it stands, Joe Kramer's team is in first, while the Tigers are in seventh.
Aberdeen Central was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from ninth to fifth in the league. Earlier in the week, Mike Flakus' team defeated Yankton 34-21.
