Rio Grande is 0-8 against West Mesa since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Rio Grande Ravens will be playing at home against the West Mesa Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. Rio Grande will be strutting in after a win while West Mesa will be coming in after a loss.
Last Friday, Rio Grande was able to grind out a solid victory over Shiprock, taking the game 22-13.
Meanwhile, West Mesa faced La Cueva in a battle between two of the state's top teams. West Mesa had to suffer through a rough 54-26 loss at the hands of La Cueva. West Mesa's loss continues a unfortunate trend for the squad, making it three in a row.
West Mesa's defeat came about despite a quality game from Elijah Brody, who rushed for 146 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 279 yards on 13 of 35 attempts.
Rio Grande's win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-6. As for West Mesa, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 4-4.
Rio Grande took a serious blow against West Mesa in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, falling 53-0. Thankfully for Rio Grande, Christopher Jinzo (who rushed for 51 yards and three touchdowns on only six carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
