Celebration is 1-7 against Windermere Prep since March of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Storm will welcome the Lakers at 6:30 p.m. Celebration has given up an average of 11.5 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Celebration couldn't beat Dr. Phillips on Thursday even though they stacked six runs on them in the second inning. The Storm came up short against the Panthers, falling 21-6.
Celebration saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Valeria Castellano, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Windermere Prep waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They came out on top against the Yellow Jackets by a score of 9-5.
Vanessa Nawracaj made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kylie Konstand, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Cierra Walker, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
Windermere Prep pushed their record up to 13-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Celebration, their loss dropped their record down to 11-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Celebration has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Windermere Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
