His ability to score off the dribble or rip the cords from behind the arc at any time, and against anybody, has some hoops experts penning the words ‘
Bradley Beal' and ‘potential lottery pick' in the same sentence. And the Chaminade senior still has one more season remaining in his prep career.
Beal's extraordinary offensive abilities, as well as his defensive prowess, make the Chaminade uber-talented guard this season's preseason Missouri boys Player of the Year.
Video of Bradley BealAll signs point to the Florida signee having another huge season. Should he continue at his current trend of increasing his total points scored and his scoring average each of the past two seasons, Beal could climb to a lofty position on the state's career scoring board. After scoring at an 8.2 points per game clip as a youngster, Beal poured in 23.5 points a game as a sophomore and 29 points an outing a year ago.
Heading into his final hurrah, Beal has totaled 1,725 points in 84 career games, an average of 20.5 points a game for his career. Three games into his senior season, the 6-foot-2 guard has put up 90 points to push his career-scoring total to 1,815 points. Through three seasons, Beal has made 585 of 1,217 field goals (48.1 percent), 169 of 463 3-pointers (36.5 percent) and 386 of 507 free throws (76.1 percent).
As a sophomore, Beal led the Red Devils to an 80-70 Class 5 state championship win over Grandview by posting 30 points.
His counterpart on the girls team is 2009-10 Class 4 state champion Webb City's Kaitlin Jaeger. The Missouri State signee averaged 17.8 points and 6.6 rebounds a year ago on a team that had plenty of big time players listed on the roster. All five starters and some key reserves return for another state title run. Webb City moves up a class in 2010-11, forcing the Lady Cardinals to bang the boards with some stiff Class 5 competition.
Heading into the season, Jaeger has her sights set on the school's career scoring record and is on pace to join the 2,000 point-1,000 rebound club. Barring injury, Webb City could put three career 1,000-point scorers on the court at the same time this season. Both Hailey Roderique and Kyndal Clark are on pace to reach the milestone.
