Softball Recap: Middleton Takes Down Ranked Nampa

Middleton faced Nampa in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Vikings blew past the Bulldogs 10-4. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.

Averi Gustafson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kenadi Whitlow, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Adelyn McPherson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

Middleton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .391 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Middleton is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Nampa, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-5.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Middleton is set to take on their familiar foe Bishop Kelly at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Nampa will challenge rival Emmett at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
