The Phoenix Spartans had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 44.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They escaped with a win against Salmen by the margin of a single free throw, 42-41. This was payback for Phoenix, who suffered a 67-45 loss the last time these two teams met.
Serenity McClenon was the offensive standout of the matchup as she scored 19 points along with 8 rebounds. The matchup was her third in a row with at least ten points.
Phoenix now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Salmen, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Phoenix will square off against West Jefferson at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. West Jefferson comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 21 points in their last nine games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Salmen, they will head out on the road to face off against Destrehan at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Destrehan is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.
