The Lake Marion Gators will head out on the road to take on the Academic Magnet Raptors at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Academic Magnet took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Lake Marion, who comes in off a win.
Lake Marion's four-game losing streak came to an end on Saturday. They put the hurt on Swansea with a sharp 41-20 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Lake Marion has posted since December 5, 2023.
Danasia Wright continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 14 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. She is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Teonna Allen, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Academic Magnet's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their eighth straight loss. They took a hard 57-39 fall against Crestwood. While losing is never fun, Academic Magnet can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 211th, while Crestwood is ranked 101st).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Evie Walldorf, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and six steals. She hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Abby Brauchle, who scored five points along with five rebounds.
Lake Marion's win bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Academic Magnet, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost ten of their last 11 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Lake Marion have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 29.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Academic Magnet struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 30.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Lake Marion didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Academic Magnet in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 56-51 victory.
