Wolfe County is 8-2 against Powell County since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Wolfe County Wolves will head out on the road to face off against the Powell County Pirates at 7:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Wolfe County managed to keep up with Rockcastle County until halftime on Tuesday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Wolfe County's rough 69-45 loss to Rockcastle County might stick with them for a while.
Despite the loss, Wolfe County saw an underclassman step up: Caleb Creech almost dropped a double-double on nine steals and nine blocks. It was the first time this season that Creech posted two or more blocks. Camden Oliver was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Meanwhile, Powell County unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of Breathitt County by a score of 80-77. The contest was a 30-30 toss-up at halftime, but Powell County couldn't quite close it out.
Wolfe County's loss dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Powell County, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-11.
Wolfe County beat Powell County 77-69 in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wolfe County since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
