It was a good run, but the Abbeville Panthers unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 82-73 to Newberry. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Friday (63), Abbeville still had to take the loss.
Abbeville's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Justin Rollinson, who scored 25 points along with six rebounds and five assists, and Jd Baylor who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Baylor also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Damarcus Leach was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Abbeville's defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-3. As for Newberry, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Abbeville will challenge Saluda at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Saluda will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 239th, while Abbeville is ranked 71st). As for Newberry, they will head out on the road to face off against Ninety Six at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Ninety Six has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Newberry will arrive with six straight wins.
