The Brunswick Railroaders will be playing at home against the Catoctin Cougars at 7:00 p.m. The timing isn't great for Brunswick: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Catoctin has snatched up nine consecutive wins on the road.
Brunswick suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Wednesday. They were outmatched by Frederick at home and fell 67-22. While losing is never fun, Brunswick can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 189th, while Frederick is ranked 25th).
Despite the defeat, Brunswick had strong showings from Andie Welsh, who scored seven points along with ten rebounds and four blocks, and Gabby Stefanic, who scored 12 points along with five steals. That was a full 54.5% of Brunswick's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, Catoctin was able to grind out a solid victory over Smithsburg on Tuesday, taking the game 51-41.
Catoctin got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Taylor Smith out in front who scored 25 points along with six rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Smith has scored all season. Brooke Williams was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.
Brunswick has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season. As for Catoctin, their win bumped their record up to 12-1.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Brunswick have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 35.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Catoctin struggles in that department as they've been averaging 37 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
