The Le Roy Oatkan Knights will head out to square off against the Letchworth Legends at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Le Roy has seven straight victories, Letchworth has ten straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Le Roy is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Caledonia-Mumford on Thursday as they made off with a 23-2 win. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Le Roy got a big performance out of Peter Clark, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Brady McClurg was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Le Roy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, Letchworth started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Geneseo. They lost 16-2 to the Blue Devils on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Legends have suffered since April 7th.
Letchworth saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hayden Schroeder, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Le Roy's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Letchworth, their loss dropped their record down to 1-10.
Letchworth's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Le Roy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .362. It's a different story for Letchworth, though, as they've only averaged .239. Will they be able to contain Le Roy's hitters?
Le Roy was able to grind out a solid win over Letchworth in their previous meeting back in April, winning 11-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Oatkan Knights since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
