The Springfield Blue Devils will face off against the Steele Comets at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
On Thursday, Springfield came up short against Perrysburg and fell 3-1.
While Springfield ultimately came up short, they didn't go down without a fight: they scored at least 18 points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 25-19, 22-25, 25-18.
Meanwhile, Steele hadn't done well against Brunswick recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Comets put the hurt on the Blue Devils with a sharp 3-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Comets.
Steele walked away with the victory (and looked especially good in the first set). Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-11, 25-16, 25-19.
Springfield better focus on containing Joe Penano and Hector Mendez as the pair were huge in Steele's win. Penano had 13 assists and five digs, while Mendez had four digs and three aces. Penano has been hot recently, having posted 13 or more assists the last four times he's played.
Steele was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 13 aces. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Brunswick only served five.
Steele's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Springfield, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
Everything went Springfield's way against Steele in their previous meeting back in April of 2025, as Springfield made off with a 3-0 victory. Will the Blue Devils repeat their success, or do the Comets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
