Basketball Recap: Westminster Christian Academy Comes Up Short

Westminster Christian Academy lost against Lanier Christian Academy back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Westminster Christian Academy Lions were outmatched by the Lanier Christian Academy Lightning and fell 95-62. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 300th, while the Lightning are ranked 62nd).

Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Reed Carson, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Townsend, who went 6 for 10 on his way to 17 points.

It was another big night for Mekhi Barber, who went 8 of 9 en route to 18 points and six rebounds for Lanier Christian Academy. Barber has been hot, having posted 18 or more points the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was Gavin Sewell-Strabala, who went 7 of 14 on his way to 20 points.

With the loss, Westminster Christian Academy broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-4. As for Lanier Christian Academy, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-1.

Westminster Christian Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Athens Academy at 4:00 p.m. on December 27th. As for Lanier Christian Academy, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Cherokee Christian at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Lanier Christian Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine matches -- so hopefully Cherokee Christian likes a good challenge.
