With a playoff game on the line, Merritt Island Christian rose to the challenge on Thursday. They skirted past Countryside Christian 24-22. The win was just what Merritt Island Christian needed coming off of a 52-30 defeat in their prior matchup.
Bode Handwork and Genesis Grimstead were among the main playmakers for Merritt Island Christian as the former threw for 188 yards and two touchdowns and the latter gained 152 total yards and two touchdowns. Grimstead was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 66 yards. Merritt Island Christian also got a significant boost from Max Bunin, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 95 yards.
Meanwhile, Hernando Christian Academy can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent match on Thursday. Everything went their way against Academy at the Lakes as Hernando Christian Academy made off with a 32-6 win. The win was familiar territory for Hernando Christian Academy who now have three in a row.
Merritt Island Christian's win bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Hernando Christian Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.
Merritt Island Christian lost to Hernando Christian Academy at home by a decisive 21-6 margin in their previous matchup back in October. Can Merritt Island Christian avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
