Softball Recap: Downey Takes a Loss

It was a good run, but Downey unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the La Mirada Matadores by a score of 8-7. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Matadores this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 back in March.

Delilah Navarro was cooking despite her team's loss, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and one double while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Sophia Hernandez, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Downey's defeat dropped their record down to 13-5. As for La Mirada, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season.

Downey will be playing at home against Whittier Christian at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. As for La Mirada, they will take on Warren in a tournament on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Matadores 3.5, the Bears 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
