Baseball Recap: Northside Takes a Loss

If Northside was feeling good fresh off their 15-1 takedown of Farragut last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mustangs came up short against the Payton College Prep Grizzlies on Thursday, falling 16-7. The loss continues a trend for the Mustangs in their meetings with the Grizzlies: they've now lost seven in a row.

Jesse Nick was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Northside's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 2-4 when he doesn't).

Northside's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Payton College Prep, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-7.

Coming up, Northside will look to defend their home field on Friday against Mather at 4:30 p.m. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rangers have averaged an impressive 10 runs per game this season. As for Payton College Prep, they will head out on the road to square off against Amundsen at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Vikings have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.42 runs per game on average), something the Grizzlies will no doubt try to take advantage of.
