Taylorsville is a perfect 8-0 against Puckett since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Taylorsville Tartars will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Puckett Wolves at 7:00 p.m. Taylorsville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
Taylorsville's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They blew past Mize 9-0. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tartars.
Ty Blakeney and Ford Matthews made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Blakeney struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Matthews didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. That's the first time Blakeney hasn't allowed a single hit since back in March of 2024. At bat, Blakeney scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Matthews scored two runs while going 2-for-3. What's more, Blakeney posted two hits, the most he's had since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Trey Barnes, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Easton Ford, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, on SaturdayPuckett's undefeated season almost came to an end. They had just enough and edged out Sebastopol 10-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wolves have posted since February 27, 2024.
Wilkes Carter was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Matt Rankin was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Puckett kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now hit at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
The victory got Taylorsville back to even at 2-2. As for Puckett, their win bumped their record up to 5-0.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Taylorsville has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Puckett struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Taylorsville took their victory against Puckett in their previous meeting back in April of 2022 by a conclusive 14-8. Will Taylorsville repeat their success, or does Puckett have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
