Cheshire has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against The Notre Dame Green Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Two weeks ago, Cheshire got themselves on the board against Hamden, but Hamden never followed suit. They breezed by the Green Dragons at home to the tune of 41-0. Cheshire's offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.
It was another big night for Jeffery Gonzalez, who rushed for 46 yards and two touchdowns, and also picked up 77 receiving yards. Logan Kranyak made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, Notre Dame brought some dynamite into their most recent game. They took their contest at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 58-0 win over Wilbur Cross. Given Notre Dame's advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut football rankings (they are ranked 46th, while Wilbur Cross is ranked 136th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Notre Dame's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Esteban Ortiz, who rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Joe Capasso, who rushed for 32 yards and three touchdowns.
Cheshire's win was their sixth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-5 Amity Regional and 0-6 Fairfield Prep (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 25% over those games). As for Notre Dame, their win bumped their record up to 2-4.
Cheshire strolled past Notre Dame when the teams last played back in October of 2022 by a score of 27-12. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cheshire since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
