Palmer Trinity and Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) are an even 3-3 against one another since February of 2017, but likely not for long. The Palmer Trinity Falcons will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) Stallions at 4:00 p.m. Palmer Trinity is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Palmer Trinity came up short against JC Bermudez Doral and fell 6-2. The Falcons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Palmer Trinity saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Michael Miraglia, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) waltzed into their game on Wednesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They were the clear victor by a 17-2 margin over the Spartans. The result was nothing new for the Stallions, who have now won six matches by 11 runs or more so far this season.
Willie Iglesias looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) got a massive performance out of Cole Cutrer, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Cutrer has become a key player for Somerset Academy (Silver Palms): the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Bryan Oliva, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) pushed their record up to 7-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Palmer Trinity, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Palmer Trinity has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
