The San Jacinto Valley Academy Wolves's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 50-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of California Lutheran. The result was an unpleasant reminder to San Jacinto Valley Academy of the 51-45 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2021.
Alexander Meza and Carter Kelly certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Meza scored six points along with two steals, while Kelly scored six points along with six steals. Meza has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Reon Terakubo was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Even though they lost, San Jacinto Valley Academy were working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as California Lutheran only racked up six assists.
Ethan Ash continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for California Lutheran, scoring 21 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. That's the first time this season that Ash grabbed two or more steals. Another player making a difference was Jonas Vogel, who scored eight points along with two steals.
San Jacinto Valley Academy has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season. As for California Lutheran, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. San Jacinto Valley Academy's road trip will continue as they head out to face Santa Rosa Academy at 6:30 p.m. on January 11th. Hopefully Santa Rosa Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Tuesday. As for California Lutheran, they will head out on the road to take on United Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. United Christian Academy will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
