On Monday, the Kolbe-Cathedral Cougars faced the Pomperaug Panthers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Kolbe-Cathedral snuck past Pomperaug with a 65-60 win. The victory was familiar territory for Kolbe-Cathedral who now have six in a row.
Kolbe-Cathedral found their leader in underclassman Shyloh Black, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. Black is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Amaris Timmons, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Kolbe-Cathedral has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. As for Pomperaug, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-4.
Kolbe-Cathedral will take on Notre Dame Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Notre Dame Catholic will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Connecticut Rankings (they are ranked 88th, while Kolbe-Cathedral is ranked 22nd). As for Pomperaug, they will head out on the road to face off against Brookfield at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pomperaug is coming into the matchup with four straight defeats on the road, so Brookfield is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum.
