The Perrysburg Yellow Jackets will venture away from home to square off against the Wapakoneta Redskins at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. The last five games Perrysburg has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Perrysburg took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Maumee 6-5.
JD Zeeb was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Brayden Heitmeyer, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Wapakoneta came tearing into Monday's matchup with three straight wins , and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 5-0 win over St. Henry.
Daron Houser made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Wapakoneta let Grant Jolly and Ethan Brandt run wild. Jolly got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, while Brandt went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run. Those two RBI gave Brandt a new career-high.
Perrysburg's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 17-8. As for Wapakoneta, they pushed their record up to 17-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Perrysburg has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Wapakoneta struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Perrysburg was able to grind out a solid victory over Wapakoneta in their previous meeting back in May of 2015, winning 6-2. Will the Yellow Jackets repeat their success, or do the Redskins have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
