The Black River Rats had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They rang in the new year with a 61-49 victory over Potter's House Christian on Friday. Black River's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Despite the loss, Potter's House Christian still got an impressive performance from Abram VerWys, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 11 rebounds. VerWys scored a full 51% of Potter's House Christian's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaron Leedy, who scored 12 points.
Black River's win ended a eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-6. As for Potter's House Christian, they bumped their record down to 1-8 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Black River will face off against Fennville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Fennville has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 28. As for Potter's House Christian, they will head out on the road to face off against Saugatuck at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Saugatuck will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
