The Scituate Spartans are taking a road trip to take on the North Providence Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. North Providence took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Scituate, who comes in off a win.
Scituate came out on top against Burrillville on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run first inning. The Spartans walked away with an 8-3 win over the Broncos. Eight seems to be a good number for the Spartans as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Isabella Defusco spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Scituate got a massive performance out of Lily Maggiacomo, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Those three RBI gave Maggiacomo a new career-high. Isabella Rotondo also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Scituate kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, North Providence was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They came up short against Woonsocket, falling 18-6.
Makenna Heon was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with five stolen bases, three runs, and one double. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.3 stolen bases per game. Adrianna Fortin was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
North Providence's loss dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Scituate, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-7.
Scituate couldn't quite get it done against North Providence in their previous meeting back in May of 2016 as they fell 5-1. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
