The Avon Eagles gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Padua Franciscan as Avon made off with a 59-38 victory. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Avon also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2017.
Avon's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emma Owens, who scored 7 points along with 4 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Molly Drenik, who scored 9 points along with 11 rebounds.
Padua Franciscan's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sophia Spade, who scored 13 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 steals. Another player making a difference was Ally Tonsing, who scored 4 points along with 7 steals.
Avon's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Padua Franciscan, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
Avon will head out on the road to face off against Rocky River at 12:00 p.m. on December 2nd. As for Padua Franciscan, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Walsh Jesuit at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
