Baseball Recap: Rauner Makes It Six in a Row at Home

Rauner proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by seven) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 win over the Noble Street College Prep Golden Tigers. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Golden Tigers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Carlo Alvarado made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Rauner is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Alvarado was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lucas Ghanimah, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four stolen bases, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Rauner: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Randy Castillo, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.

Rauner always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Rauner pushed their record up to 4-4 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Noble Street College Prep, their record now sits at 1-3.

Coming up, Rauner will head out on the road to square off against ITW David Speer Academy at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Pride have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.83 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Noble Street College Prep, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Bulls College Prep at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
