Marina is 1-6 against the Pirates since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Marina Mariners will look to defend their home court against the Stevenson Pirates at 7:00 p.m. Marina has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 709 points over their last 11 contests.
Alisal typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Marina proved too difficult a challenge. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Trojans 58-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Marina had a senior duo take command as Julius Robinson scored 29 points and Jordan Bonnard Webb dropped a double-double on 16 points and 17 rebounds. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Robinson has scored at least a third of Marina's points. Khalik Kennedy was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Meanwhile, Stevenson beat the Condors 46-39 on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Stevenson.
Stevenson's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cooper Olin led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Tate Toole, who scored 15 points along with four steals.
Marina is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. As for Stevenson, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-12.
Everything went Marina's way against the Pirates in their previous meeting back in January as the Mariners made off with a 67-41 win. Does Marina have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pirates turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
