Baseball Recap: Creighton Prep Drops Season-High Score on Omaha Northwest

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Creighton Prep). They were the clear victors by a 24-0 margin over the Omaha Northwest Huskies on Tuesday. The Junior Jays have beaten the Huskies the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Huskies has come to flipping the script.

Jack Cosgrove looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Logan Burchfiel was a standout: he scored four runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. He has become a key player for Creighton Prep: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Liam Smithberg, who went 3-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and one double.

Creighton Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Creighton Prep pushed their record up to 8-7 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Omaha Northwest, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-10.

Coincidentally, Creighton Prep and Omaha Northwest will both be playing Elkhorn South the next time they take the field. The Junior Jays will head out to face the Storm at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Huskies will head out to face them at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
