The Two Rivers Warriors pushed their score all the way to 73 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 83-73 to Fridley. It was the first time this season that Two Rivers let down their fans at home.
Despite the defeat, Two Rivers saw an underclassman step up: Sophia Amundson dropped a double-double on 31 points and 12 rebounds. Those 12 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Elayna Vannett was another key contributor, scoring 21 points.
Even though they lost, Two Rivers were working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Leading Fridley to victory were Brandi Washington and Aubrey Cochran-Star. Washington scored 27 points along with five assists and four steals, while Cochran-Star dropped a double-double on 23 points and 12 rebounds. The matchup was Washington's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Emily Oftedahl, who scored 12 points.
Two Rivers' loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-2. As for Fridley, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-2.
Two Rivers will head out on the road to face off against Visitation at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Visitation comes in still looking for their first win of the season. Fridley will be home for the holidays to greet Willmar at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Willmar is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
