Wenonah is 0-10 against Pleasant Grove since January of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Wenonah Dragons will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pleasant Grove Spartans at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Wenonah waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with four straight wins but they left with five. They really took it to John Carroll Catholic for the full four quarters, racking up a 68-41 win at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Wenonah has posted since December 28, 2023.
Wenonah got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Samarian Franklin out in front who scored 29 points along with nine steals and seven rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Franklin has scored at least a third of Wenonah's points. Another player making a difference was Jakerria Ringstaff, who dropped a triple-double on ten points, 11 assists, and ten steals.
Meanwhile, Pleasant Grove waltzed into their game on Tuesday with three straight wins but they left with four. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Fairfield 66-37 on the road. Given Pleasant Grove's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while Fairfield is ranked 224th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wenonah is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 16 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 22-6 record this season. As for Pleasant Grove, their win bumped their record up to 16-7.
Wenonah was taken down by Pleasant Grove 69-30 in their previous meeting on January 3rd. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Wenonah was down 38-17.
