The Plainview Indians will square off against the Newcastle Racers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Having struggled with six losses in a row, Plainview turned things around against Dickson on Monday. They never let the Comets get on the board and left with an 11-0 win. That 11 run margin sets a new team best for the Indians this season.
Devyn Anderson and Brylan Anderson did most of the damage at the plate: Devyn went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI, while Brylan scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. Those two stolen bases gave Devyn a new career-high. Dane Dickerson was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Plainview always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dickson only posted an OBP of .214.
Meanwhile, Newcastle entered their tilt with El Reno on Saturday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 11-10 W against the Indians. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Racers, who until this matchup were averaging 2.36 runs allowed.
Newcastle let Taj Smith and Tyler Frazier run wild. Smith went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double, while Frazier scored two runs while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Kaden Longman, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Newcastle pushed their record up to 13-1 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Plainview, their victory bumped their record up to 4-9.
Plainview might still be hurting after the 15-1 defeat they got from Newcastle when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Plainview avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
