Northview and Plainfield are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Knights will challenge the Quakers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Northview is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.
Northview barely beat Clay City the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Knights put the hurt on the Eels with a sharp 8-1 victory on Wednesday. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Maggie Krause made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Mackie Pell was incredible, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Chloe Batchelor was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs.
Northview hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clay City struck out 14 times.
Decatur Central hit Plainfield with a four-run first inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Quakers fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 9-7. The Quakers' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Amelia Martin was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits.
On the hitting side, Belle Steele led a balanced group of hitters, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Ava Broyles also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Plainfield's defeat dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Northview, their record now sits at 9-3.
Plainfield's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Northview has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Plainfield, though, as they've been averaging only 3.1 strikeouts. Will Northview keep running through batters, or will the Quakers buck the trend?
Northview came up short against Plainfield in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, falling 4-0. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
