Smithfield faced Ponaganset in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Sentinels put the hurt on the Chieftains with a sharp  15-4 win. The Sentinels might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six  runs or more this season.
Smithfield got a  massive  performance out of  Sophia Parrillo, who  went a perfect 3-for-3 with three  runs, four  RBI,  and one  stolen base. That's the most  RBI  Parrillo has posted since back in April of 2024.  Madison Kennedy was another key player,  getting on base  in three of her four plate appearances with four  runs, one  stolen base,  and one  RBI.
 Smithfield was getting hits left and right  and  finished the game having  posted a batting average of .464. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ponaganset only posted a  batting average of  .316.
Smithfield pushed their record up to 6-2 with the  victory, which was their fifth straight  at home. Those  home  wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Ponaganset,  they are  on  a  five-game losing streak  that has dropped them down to 2-7.
 Both  squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Smithfield will challenge Chariho at 4:45  p.m.  on Wednesday. The Chargers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6  runs per game  this season, so the Sentinels' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Ponaganset, they will take on St. Raphael Academy at 4:30  p.m.  on Wednesday.
