The Mountainside Mavericks are taking a road trip to challenge the Glencoe Tide at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Mountainside 1.4, Glencoe 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Glencoe will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Mountainside extended their winning streak to four on Monday. Everything went the Mavericks' way against Sandy as they made off with a 13-2 victory. Considering the Mavericks have won seven matchups by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Jojo Appling made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other pitching news, Skylar Hins looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

Kawaguchi got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Jukkula went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three stolen bases gave Kawaguchi a new career-high. Olivia Paris was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Glencoe faced Sunset in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Tide came out on top in a nail-biter against the Apollos, sneaking past 4-2. The Tide haven't had any issues with the Apollos recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Lexi Brester spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, Makena Petrick was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI.
Mountainside's record is now 9-3. As for Glencoe, their record now sits at 12-1.
Glencoe's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Mountainside has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Glencoe, though, as they've been averaging only 3.7 strikeouts. Will Mountainside keep running through batters, or will the Tide buck the trend?
