Riverside has gone a perfect 10-0 against Newport recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Rams will be playing in front of their home fans against the Grizzlies at 4:00 p.m. Riverside has given up an average of 11 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Riverside is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 13 runs back in March, they were much more limited against Deer Park on Tuesday. They lost 12-1 to the Stags. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Rams have suffered against the Stags since April 28, 2022.
Riverside saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lindsey Hudson-Wayne, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Newport entered their tilt with Davenport on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 15-14 W against the Gorillas.
Lili Hall made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.
In other batting news, Newport got a massive performance out of Genica Kreider, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. Those three stolen bases gave Kreider a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bella Boyd, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Newport kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive games.
Newport pushed their record up to 5-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Riverside, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.
Riverside was able to grind out a solid victory over Newport when the teams last played back in March, winning 8-4. Do the Rams have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Grizzlies turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
