The Marion Warriors were the 44-42 winner over the Medicine Lodge Indians when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Marion was just a bucket shy of victory on Thursday and fell 46-45 to Medicine Lodge. While losing is never fun, Marion can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 249th, while Medicine Lodge is ranked 121st).
Several Warriors players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Grace Hett, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds and four steals. The match was Hett's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Erin Regnier, who scored ten points along with six assists and three steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Marion and nudges their season record down to 1-5. As for Medicine Lodge, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.
Marion will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Bennington at 6:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024. The timing is sure in Bennington's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Marion has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season. Medicine Lodge will be home for the holidays to greet South Haven at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
