Softball Recap: Friday's Win Is Bishop O'dowd's Fourth in Last Five Outings

Bishop O'Dowd was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Pinole Valley on Friday. The Dragons never let the Spartans get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Dragons, who have now won five contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Not much got past Emma Brown, who gave up just a hit and racked up seven Ks to keep Pinole Valley off the board. Brown has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jaella Mercado was excellent, scoring three runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 11 games. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Veenstra, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.

Mercado wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Bishop O'Dowd kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matchups.

Bishop O'Dowd has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Pinole Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-3.

Bishop O'Dowd didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 10-5 win against Arroyo on the 1st. As for Pinole Valley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 16-0 victory against Concord on the 1st.
