The E.E. Smith Golden Bulls fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Pine Forest Trojans on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Trojans 56-52. The result was an unpleasant reminder to E.E. Smith of the 63-56 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January.
E.E. Smith's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Asany Richmond, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds, and Tre Williams who scored 19 points along with three steals. Williams continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Johnathan Williams was another key contributor, scoring five points along with two steals and two blocks.
It was another big night for Nehemiah Mcdonald, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and four steals for Pine Forest. Mcdonald is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last seven games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Malachi Cooke, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
E.E. Smith has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season. As for Pine Forest, they pushed their record up to 12-9 with that win, which was their third straight at home.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. E.E. Smith will take on Western Harnett at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Pine Forest, they will be playing at home against Triton at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Triton knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matches -- so hopefully Pine Forest likes a good challenge.
