The Sterlington Panthers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Union Parish Farmers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Sterlington comes in on five and Union Parish on three.
Two Fridays ago, Sterlington got themselves on the board against Bastrop, but Bastrop never followed suit. They claimed a resounding 49-0 victory over the Rams on the road. Given Sterlington's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana football rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while Bastrop is ranked 169th), the result wasn't exactly an upset.
Dylan Downs had a dynamite game for Sterlington, rushing for 106 yards and two touchdowns, while also throwing for 125 yards and two touchdowns on only three passes. Downs was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 51 yards. Nathaniel White did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 83 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Union Parish humbled North Webster with a 43-14 victory. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Union Parish just coasted through the last quarter.
Jy?marion Island and Derrick Dew were among the main playmakers for Union Parish as the former rushed for 165 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.7 yards per carry and the latter rushed for 142 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry. Island is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last six games he's played.
Their wins bumped Sterlington to 5-1 and Union Parish to 4-2.
Sterlington might still be hurting after the 34-14 loss they got from Union Parish in their previous meeting back in November of 2022. Thankfully for Sterlington, Treyvion Holly (who rushed for 180 yards and three touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
