This season hasn't been kind to The Cypress Park Tigers, who are still winless after their ninth game. They took a 28-17 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cypress Falls on Friday. While losing is never fun, Cypress Park can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 757th, while Cypress Falls is ranked 202nd).
Cypress Park's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Lemarion Byrd, who rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown, and Ryan Rasco who picked up 99 receiving yards.
Kye Callicoattee looked great while leading his team to the win, throwing for 190 yards and three touchdowns. Cypress Falls also got help from Ajani Cargile who showed off his sure hands for 108 receiving yards.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Cypress Park to a paltry 200 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Cypress Falls' ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out four times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Romeo Johnson and his two sacks.
Cypress Park's loss was their fifth straight at home , which bumped their record down to 0-10. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 12.6 points per game. As for Cypress Falls, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-2.
Cypress Park will head out on the road to face off against Cypress Woods at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Cypress Woods is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for Cypress Falls, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Cypress Ranch at 7:00 p.m.
