The Morgan Eagles came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with 14 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They snuck past Covington with a 61-56 win. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Morgan got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Adrian Alonzo out in front who scored 29 points along with six assists and three steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Alonzo has scored at least a third of Morgan's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mark Anthony Garcia, who scored 11 points along with five assists and four steals.
Several Owls players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jeremiah Cunningham, who scored 19 points. Another player making a difference was Ivan Mendez, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Morgan pushed their record up to 21-1 with that win, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Covington, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-12.
Morgan will head out on the road to square off against Kopperl at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Morgan is facing Kopperl at the right time seeing as Kopperl is stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Covington, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Walnut Springs at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully Covington focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Tuesday.
